Activator Alumni Pitch to Perfection at Pitch@Palace Melbourne

Seven RMIT Activator teams pitched their incredible ventures to an eager audience at Pitch@Palace Melbourne last week. In the presence of His Royal Highness, The Duke of York, and The Honourable Linda Dessau AC, Governor of Victoria, nervous teams had just three minutes to pitch their businesses at Government House.
Recovawear – providers of post-surgery clothing and IDA Sports – designers of made-for-women football boots made it through to the Pitch@Palace Australia Final held in Brisbane on 30 November. Australian winners go on to compete at Pitch@Palace Global at St. James’s Palace in London in December 2018.
Pitch@Palace Alumni continue to receive ongoing support, introductions, and connections from the Pitch@Palace Australia team.
IDA Sports are currently part of our LaunchHUB program. Co-founder Laura Youngson reflected on the experience saying, “we learnt loads from the other teams and that was one of the coolest parts.” Her co-founder Ben Sandhu, an RMIT Lecturer said “to get to go to Brisbane with forty of the most exciting startups around Australia and hang out and learn from them for three days is going to be great. We’re so excited.”
Pitch@Palace was founded by The Duke of York in 2014 to support and accelerate the work of dedicated entrepreneurs. The program connects entrepreneurs and early-stage businesses with a global network of potential supporters including CEOs, influencers, investors and mentors.
Activator alumni Jo Zimpel pitched for her business STEM Hub – an online marketplace that connects industry with the STEM community, students and grads. STEM Hub was born out of Jo’s own struggle to find employment after university, finding out she had the right technical skills but lacked industry experience and enterprise skills.
Speaking about her Pitch@Palace experience, Jo said “it was terrifying, overwhelming, exciting but well worth it! From the experience, I grew and by the end of it I wanted more – I was on a total high from the adrenaline rush!”
STEM Hub has recently partnered with RMIT’s School of Science and is in the process of building on a collaboration with the College of Science, Engineering, and Health. They’re currently focused on providing top quality STEM internships, capstone projects and jobs for students and recent graduates.
