Now that the craziness is over, let’s reflect on the incredible week that was RMIT Entrepreneurship Week 2018! If you noticed a buzz in the building last week, you weren’t alone. Activator was fortunate enough to collaborate with RMIT Careers & Employability on a series of learning experiences and events to inspire and foster entrepreneurial talent in the RMIT community.
The week kicked off with a Startup Showcase, where students got the chance to hear our incredible startups share their one-minute elevator pitches, learn about internship opportunities and network with industry. We were also lucky enough to have Sandbox superstar Sophia Ireland join us for a Local Heroes session. Sophia shared her creative journey in launching Orenda Magazine, as well as touching on the importance of taking care of yourself and your health during the process. Sophia also shared her tips for managing a busy uni schedule with running your own startup – which resonated heavily with attendees.
By the time we hit midweek, Activator was ready to present the main event – the Social Impact Hackathon! Alongside Jac Nasser, RMIT Alumni and Careers and Employability, participants were invited to help create a brighter, greener future for the City of Melbourne. Winners and runners-up received seed funding and entry to Bootcamp and Sandbox.
The hackathon is indicative of Activator’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, innovation, and industry participation, with participants leaving feeling energised and inspired to make a positive social impact.

It wouldn’t be a week at Activator HQ without a Skill Up, and Entrepreneurship was no exception. Eager minds got the chance to explore their value propositions and test their ideas, over two in-depth workshops.
If that sounds like an action-packed week – it really was, and we can’t wait to do it all again next year! A huge shout out to everyone who helped us make it possible – especially RMIT Careers and Employability. If you missed out on all the fun or just want more, never fear! We’ve got amazing learning experiences running throughout the semester, check them out here.
